5 Ways a Blog Helps In Social Media Marketing

Not so long ago, the primary aim of using social media was to promote a website or blog. Today, that is still the case, but things have shifted slightly. Social Media has become such a lucrative ground for promotion, that many businesses have ditched the blog and gone solely for social media promotion.

As a social media manager, I recently acquired a client with a website, but no blog, aiming to rely totally on social media to promote their business. Here are the problems I have encountered promoting on social media without a blog.

1. Blog Posts Provide Relevant Content for Social Media

Blog posts provide your own relevant content that can be shared on social media. Without your own blog, sharing other persons content builds THEIR online property, sending traffic to THEM without any benefit for your work. Having that content on your own blog builds you both ways. It builds your blog and your social media presence at the same time.

2. Boost Promotions With A Landing Page on Your Blog

Promotions can be highlighted through blog posts with taking visitors to landing pages on the website that are crafted to convert visitors into buyers. Of course social media provides powerful promotional opportunities, but nothing better than having a high converting landing page of your own to which to send social media traffic.

3. Facebook Retargeting

You can use Facebook retargeting to promote to visitors. Once a person visits your website, it means they are interested in your product. If they do not buy immediately, you can market to them over time on Facebook and there is great chance that they will eventually buy. Without retargeting, that customer would have been lost forever.

4. Video Boost

Videos that you post on social media can be embedded on your blog which boost your blog. Using the video on social media only will make it current for a while and over time it will be forgotten. Creating a blog post with the video will give it a chance to ranks for keywords and turn up in searches so it is not buried forever.

5. Build Your Own Online Property

When you post only to social media, you are actually building their online property. Using a blog of your own along with your social channels, builds your own blog property in the process.


A blog and your social media marketing campaign go hand in hand. They both build and complement each other. Having one without the other is asking for an uphill struggle over time. Have you marketed your business successfully on social media without a blog?
